Pfew, this week was hard for me! I felt so uninspired. How about you? Have you recently updated your blog/shared your photos from the challenge online? Please let me know in the comments, I would love to see them :)

Talk to you soon!
This is blogpost Nr° 301 on this blog. Can you believe it?!

On April 14, 2010 I wrote my very first blogpost (on this blog) without having any readers. Now, more than 3 years later, there are almost 800 people who read all the junk I post here. Hihi. To celebrate that, and to thank you, I wanted to organize another giveaway.

The giveaway consists of 6 tapes, of which 2 are real washi tapes (pink polka dots & purple checkered pattern), and 4 are ordinary tapes (checkered pattern, bows, airmail and stars). Other than that you'll receive some other stationary (& handmade) surprises!

To participate in the giveaway, all you have to do is:
1. be a follower of my blog via Bloglovin' (or GFC)

2. leave a comment stating you want to participate.
P.S. If you want to have more chances, you can share this giveaway on your blog, Facebook or Twitter. Just leave a separate comment with the link please. You can also like Bij Gebrek Aan Beter on Facebook.

Et voilà, it really is that simple! The giveaway will end September 30th, and I'll announce the winner on my blog.

Good luck!
Summer is over, fall is here again. It's been 4 months since my last month in photo. Shame on me. You know, life got in the way. This will be a suuuuper long summer in photo, covering May, June, July and August. Excited to see what I did during summer?

In May...

» I visited Berlin to celebrate Elise's 22nd birthday!

» my parents organized a party because they celebrated their 100th anniversary (together, of course), and everyone had a blast!

» I tried to grow herbs, and failed miserably (I can't seem to keep plants alive :( )

» I had to study and finish assignments hardcore, like a boss.

In June...

» we adopted two kittens, Pixel & Cera. They are the cutest.

(I couldn't not include this photo even though it's not sharp.. Aaaahhhww!)

» I paid family visits.

» and photographed my first wedding. It was a magical day.

» but most of all, I studied my ass off.

In July...

» I moved in with the bf!! Yay!!

the pillows for our sofa & me in the elevator. I could hardly get out. Good times.

» I had cozy get togethers with friends.

» we took a few days off and enjoyed Escalles.

» I had my first photoshoot with a baby! That was exciting. Will you just look at the fluffiness of this baby girl?

» I left my camera home most of the time. In one way, it felt like a relief, but in another way, it's also a bit sad. Cause photos and memories go so well together. Ah well, no regrets!

In August...

» we took our godchildren to a huge playground where we had loads of fun.

» I had another fab birthday party!

» I visited Marlou in Brussels, talked, wandered around town and ate an awesome bagel.

» I said goodbye to two of my besties during a lovely barbecue/diner party. (They are going on Erasmus this semester.) & celebrated my sister's 21st birthday with a delicious brunch.

Pfew, that was quite the summer! There are lots of things that didn't make it to this summer selection on the blog, but at least you get an idea of the stuff I did :) So tell me, how was your summer?
The start of a new school year also means the start of a new year of weekly sewing bees! Thanks to that, last week I sewed this new blouse. Super easy to make, you don't even need a pattern if you have your measurements. To finish the neckline I used contrasting yellow bias binding. What do you think?

That's another handmade (clothing) item to tick off my 22 before 23 list! :)

Talk to you soon!

Overview of the themes I did and still have to do:

How has this past week been for the other participants? For me this was an easy week, the challenge is becoming a daily ritual. :)

Talk to you soon!
Today I'll answer the photography & sewing related questions I got asked a few weeks ago. :)

Photography

"When did you start to use your camera?"
It all started when I bought my Canon EOS 1000D in April 2010. My boyfriend had bought a semi-reflex camera a couple of months before and I was a bit jealous of his sharp pictures. So I bought my camera and immediately started experimenting and discovering.

"How did you learn to take good pictures?"
I guess you learn over time. I used to take my camera with me all the time to take pictures in different situations. Also: take photos on the manual stand of your camera, that way you'll figure out how your camera works a lot quicker. I also taught myself how to edit photos in Photoshop.
 "Which lenses do you use?"
I have three lenses. In the beginning I only had a kit lens (Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6), which works fine. A few months later I bought a zoom lens (Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS) - which I rarely use, although it's a nice lens-, and in February 2012 I bought the portrait lens I now use most of the time: Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II)
"Do you have any photography tips?"
Yes, first of all: keep practicing! Also, if you come across nice photos on the internet, try to figure out what the set-up of the photo was like, what settings you should use on your camera, ... I learned a lot with Youtube videos and the help of Fotografille.

I also don't mind enhancing my photos a bit using Adobe Photoshop. If you don't own Photoshop, you can:
1. be a pirate and steal it
2. use Picmonkey, GIMP or Pixlr. Those are free online photo editor and will do the job just fine.

Sewing

"Where did you buy your sewing machine?"
Josefien was a gift from my parents. She's actually a Singer Magic, which is a very basic sewing machine model. And I would say it is an excellent starter's model. You have a few straight and zig-zag stitches and even a buttonhole function. My parents bought her online, but you can find these kind of cheap but decent sewing machines anywhere.
"How/where/from who did you learn how to sew?"
In 2009 I took an evening course in sewing because a friend of mine took one a year before and I was jealous about all the pretty stuff she could make. In that course I learned the basics from professional sewers, and from that moment on I didn't stop learning and exploring the functions of my sewing machine. Since sewing is currently booming, I'm pretty sure there are tons of evening schools that offer sewing courses starting this September (or January). I followed the course for 1 year and then I continued on my own. Of course I get stuck sometimes, but I can always ask for help. My grandma's aunt was a professional sewer so my grandma knows a lot of stuff, but if she can't help me, I can always count on my colleagues of the sewing bee I attend every week. They litterally know everything.

Other than professional help, try to find out things on your own. The internet is full of tutorials & video guides!
"Where did you get your mannequin?"
Odette, my mannequin, was (also, I'm such a lucky girl!) a gift from my parents. She's adjustable, which is awesome! I don't know where she was bought, but I know they sell an adjustable mannequin in Veritas as well, and probably some other sewing shops.

hihi, my Photoshopskills weren't that good when I edited this photo, but at least you can see Odette here!

Hope this helped! Talk to you soon!
